It starts with a fun introduction and ends with some fun hash trivia. In between are over 35 hash recipes that will astound you with the variety and range of what your grandma's corned beef hash has evolved into. Sure you can start with a simple corned beef hash (page 3) but for the truly inspired there are recipes for simple Clam Hash Patties (page 53), Pizza Hash (page 71), and even a Thai Yellow Curry Veggie Hash (page 81). The book is replete with pictures and a fun little discussion of each recipe.I have met the author and sampled some tasty salmon hash at a local restaurant; Clark does know his hash. He also has a fun blog at hashcapades.com that is always entertaining.

Who would have thought that so much could be done with hash. This cookbook is just a glimpse at what can be created with a few or more ingredients. The pictures are great ! Now if I can just perfect that poached egg.
Having tried most of the recipes in the book, I can attest to their deliciousness. Clark has created a delightful culinary adventure for us with his Hashcapades. A wonderful gift for the cook who has everything or needs a place to start.
Clark Haass is a Portland Gem. When I saw this was a local cookbook I had to have it. It is a fun cookbook with the added bonus of a simple how-to for novices. Each recipe comes with a gorgeous photo and easy instructions. This is an amazing addition to your cookbook collection or a fun gift to put under the tree!
What a great concept for a cookbook. Great ideas for leftovers and quick meals. My friend with gluten free needs would love this book, as she loves potatoes. I have my Christmas list taken care of using this book. Check it out, You will love the easy step by step instructions and humor. Happy cooking.
We bought Hashcapades after meeting Clark in Portland in person. He is truly the Hash King (he doesn't stop talking about hash)!
At first, we thought we'd buy it as a present for a friend, since we have some food intolerances in the family. But when we got it, we read through it and saw that we could substitute things like sweet potato for potato, coconut cream for cream, etc and still follow the same style and basic flavours. We liked the combinations, which we wouldn't have thought about ourselves.
We love breakfast foods. In fact we could quite happily survive on them. When we were first told about Clark and his hash our first thought went to the days my husband spent in the Air Force and those MRE's. Clark has assembled some incredible recipes in this book and even my husband can put together one of these fine dishes. You won't be disappointed with your choice. Clark's sense of humor is alive and well throughout his book. Perfect gift this holiday season.
Finally a cookbook built for the way I cook. First, I love the e-book version with links and stories. It's easy to use in the kitchen straight from my ipad or kindle. Second, the recipes are fun and easy to follow. There is inspiration for using what's in the house and then are a few special ones worth shopping for specific ingredients. Hash is not just for breakfast anymore and this book will guide you. I like it so much I'm ordering three more for Christmas gifts. I think my friends and family will love it too.
